Airbnb Review: A Weekend in Scottsdale featuring A Lyle AZ Retreat

This blog post was made in collaboration with A Lyle AZ Retreat Airbnb. All my opinions are my own.

WHERE IS A LYLE AZ RETREAT LOCATED?

Location: A Lyle AZ Retreat is located in South Scottsdale and is only about a 5 minute drive from Old Town Scottsdale. For privacy reasons, I will not share the exact location. You will receive it when you book the property!

More about a Lyle AZ Retreat: A Lyle AZ retreat was established in November 2020 and is owned by a couple from the Seattle area. They spent the first 30 days owning the property building furniture, upgrading the space and adding so many amenities to the home that it truly has become a retreat. The home is truly a labor of love and you can feel it the second you check in.

HOW TO GET TO A LYLE AZ RETREAT

I recommend renting a car if you plan on doing a lot of site seeing. However, if you want to base most of your time in and around Scottsdale, you can easily Uber or even use the bikes provided by the Airbnb. From the Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport, the home is roughly a 15 minute drive.

SOME HIGHLIGHTS FROM MY STAY AT A LYLE AZ RETREAT

The Location

The main thing I look for when booking a vacation property is the location. How close is it to restaurants, bars, the main sites, etc.

  • Walking: When it isn’t the dead of summer in Arizona, you can easily walk to the Old Town Scottsdale area in about 35 minutes (2 miles)
  • Bike: You can use the bikes + bike locks provided by the Airbnb. Biking will take you about 20 minutes to get to Old Town.
  • Drive: If you would prefer a quick car ride, it will only take you about 5 minutes to get to Old Town.

The House

This house is the perfect place to get away. There are 4 bedrooms: 2 have king beds, two have full beds and a bunk bed with three twin beds. I got to stay in the boho room. It has a desk with a makeup mirror. Not only was it a great place to get ready for the day, but I also was able to work from that desk and take meetings in peace. There is a washer and dryer on site, TV’s with cable in the master bedroom, the Palm Springs room and in the living room.

The Backyard

The backyard is the best part of the house in my opinion. They have a fully covered porch with an outdoor TV and a sitting area, an outdoor dining set, a heated pool, lounge chairs and a fire pit. I spent so much time outside soaking up the sun, watching TV outside and even working from the outdoor dining set.

The House Amenities

Some of the house amenities include:

  • Washer and Dryer with detergent
  • 4 bikes with a bike lock
  • Cable
  • Heated pool
  • Table Tennis
  • Pool floaties with an air pump
  • Corn hole
  • Putting green
  • A TON of board games
  • Body wash, shampoo and conditioner dispenser in the shower
  • Makeup station
  • Pet friendly (pet deposit is required)

The Hosts

I’ve never meet such responsive hosts. They are able to quickly answer questions for you and they want to actually get to know why you are coming to their Airbnb so that they can make your stay extra special.

You HAVE to go here! It’s a cute little Mexican restaurant that has a cute outdoor space that you can enjoy.

Bourbon & Bones

Address: 4200 N Scottsdale Rd, Scottsdale, AZ 85251

If you are feeling like a fancy night out, then you have to check out Bourbon & Bones. It is an upscale steak house. However, the highlight of this restaurant for us is their butter cake! Try it and thank me later!

  • Drink recommendations: Guava mule, whisky flight
  • Food recommendations: Any of their meats are good, sides: brussels sprouts, truffle mashed potatoes, BUTTER CAKE! save room for dessert here

Fate Brewing – South

Address: 1312 N Scottsdale Rd, Scottsdale, AZ 85257

Fate Brewing South has a great outdoor area. I have been here a few times and have tried a different beer each time.

  • Drink recommendations: Fateless IPA, Fateful IPA
  • Food recommendations: Truff Diver pizza – you can’t go wrong with a good truffle pizza!

O.H.S.O Brewing

Address: 4900 E Indian School Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85018

There are several O.H.S.O Brewing locations, but the address I provided above is the closest location to the Airbnb. This brewery is crowded all day, every day, so expect some sort of wait when you visit. We’ve been here a few time and sit outside every time!

  • Drink recommendations: Popcycle Blonde, Boom Dynamite,
  • Food recommendations: AZ Burger, PBJ Burger, Pretzels & Dip

ZuZu at Hotel Valley Ho

Address: 6850 E Main St, Scottsdale, AZ 85251

I definitely recommend going here for weekend brunch. I’ve been here on a Monday and during the weekend and the weekend menu is way better! ZuZu is the restaurant located inside Hotel Valley Ho.

  • Drink Recommendations: Bloody Mary, Milkshake
  • Food Recommendations: Breakfast Burrito, breakfast fried rice, smoked salmon plate

Wine Girl Wines

Address: 4205 N Scottsdale Rd, Scottsdale, AZ 85251

Wine Girl is your go to oasis located in the heart of Old Town Scottsdale. Featuring rotating wines on tap, a reserved bottle list, beers, Claws, & other libations. Be sure to stop in to enjoy our ever changing array of food options! This place is an Instagrammers dream. The space is light and bright!

The Canal Club at The Scott Resort and Spa

Address: 4925 N Scottsdale Rd, Scottsdale, AZ 85251

This is one of those bars that you probably have seen on Instagram. The Canal Club is a bar inside the Scott Resort. When you walk into the hotel, walk straight back and you won’t miss it! It makes for some amazing photos because of the neon pink sign!

  • Drink recommendations: Sin & Santeria
  • Food recommendations: Try the avocado toast and the almond butter and banana toast

SumoMaya

Address: 6560 N Scottsdale Rd, Scottsdale, AZ 85253

SumoMaya is a genius restaurant of Asian/Mexican fusion. There were 5 of us eating at the restaurant and so we ordered a bunch of dishes and ate family style.

  • Drink recommendation: Spicy Peach Margarita
  • Food recommendations: Rainbow ceviche, Wood fired edamame, rock shrimp tempura sushi, Pad Thai pork “al pastor”, Avocado fried rice

Top Golf

Address: 9500 Talking Stick Way, Scottsdale, AZ 85256

Top Golf is such a fun group activity. If you don’t know what it is it is a “driving range”.. sort of. There are various nets spread out that you try and hit into. There are various challenges you can set up to make it fun. On our most recent visit they had recently released Angry Birds which ended up being so fun!

Hash Kitchen Gainey Ranch

Address: 8777 N Scottsdale Rd, Scottsdale, AZ 85253

This is an amazing brunch spot and has Build Your Own Bloody Mary’s! Yes, please! When you first enter the restaurant, you will see the Bloody Mary Bar. Order from your server who will give you the receipt to take to the bartender. You get to choose your vodka, how spicy you want your bloody mary mix and if you want salt or celery salt on the rim. From there you are given your drink and can then go around the bar choosing what toppings you want. *the build your own bloody mary bar has changed slightly due to the pandemic.

  • Food Recommendations: Carnitas Hash & Huevos Rancheros
  • Tip: If you get the Bloody Mary, I recommend sharing an entrée with someone. The toppings could be a meal on their own and we ended up hardly making a dent in our meal.

Phoenix

Pigtails

Address: 1 E Washington St #128, Phoenix, AZ 85004

This is such a cool hidden bar in Phoenix. It is in a newer building. You walk through a “meat shop” in the front and through the swinging doors. The bar in the back is beautiful. There is a whole living wall of plants behind the bar.

Desert Botanical Gardens

Address: 1201 N Galvin Pkwy, Phoenix, AZ 85008

Desert Botanical Gardens is definitely a place I recommend you check out during your visit. If you want to eat here you can! There is a restaurant called Gertrude’s here which serves some pretty amazing food.

  • Drink recommendation: Prickly Pear Margarita
  • Food Recommendation: Lamb Curry, duck enchiladas

Once you are done eating you should wander through the gardens (note: you much purchase an entrance to the gardens. Eating at Gertrude’s does not get you an entrance to the gardens). There are so many desert plans you can check out here, art installations, and my favorite part: the Stardust Foundation plaza. There is a beautiful awning that has amazing light as the sun sets.

Platform 18

Address: 3626 E Indian School Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85018

This is one of the coolest bar experiences I have had. The company is called Century Grand and they are responsible for this simulated train car cocktail bar experience. All of the window are showing a loop of a train going through the Rocky Mountains. The lights even flicker like an old train car! Reservations are required. You pay a $25 per person deposit at the time of booking. This money gets applied to your final bill. There is also another bar on site called Grey Hen RX, a bar inspired by New Orleans.

The Churchill

Address: 901 N 1st St, Phoenix, AZ 85004

The Churchill is a really cool container area near these last few spots. During peak operating hours, there is a bar, several food spots and one or two retail spots that change out every year or so.

Arizona Wilderness DTPX

Address: 201 E Roosevelt St, Phoenix, AZ 85004

One of my favorite spots that we actually just stumbled on. We were driving to The Churchill and drove past Arizona Wilderness. After some mural photos, we stopped in. They have an outdoor beer garden if you can brave the heat. I usually like to try the pretzel if it is on the menu at a brewery. I have a few favorite spots back in Seattle, but this actually is my #1 FAVORITE pretzel EVER! I am so sad I will probably never have it again.

  • Beer Recommendation: Watermelon Gose (SO GOOD!)
  • Food Recommendation: Bavarian Pretzel Sticks

Killer Whale Sex Club

Address: 922 N 6th St, Phoenix, AZ 85004

OMG such a cool place! It’s sort of a “hidden” bar that also serves some pretty amazing Korean / Philippino food. At night, the restaurant is super dark inside. Check out their Instagram for some better shots of the space!
