Here are the Things You Should Do With One Day in Calgary, Alberta

Chances are, you are in Calgary because you were heading to Banff or Jasper. We found ourselves with a day in Calgary on our Memorial Weekend trip to Banff in May. Calgary is known for the rodeo that happens for a week every year! We spent half a day in Calgary and this is what I would recommend:

Calgary Tower

Wake up early and get to Calgary Tower right when it opens. Head 626 feet into the air and get an amazing view of Calgary. There is a 360 degree observation deck to take in all the views. The tower construction began back in 1967 and was completed in 1968. The total cost was about 3.5 million dollars (can you imagine what that would cost to build today?). Cost for admission starts at 18CAD.

Craft Beer Market

It is never too early for a beer, right? I LOVED visiting the Craft Beer Market. It is a huge open space with exposed pipes. I love the industrial feel it gives. We chose to sit at the bar and start with 2 different samplers. We chose our favorite beer and ended up spending a few hours here.

Walk the Peace Bridge

If you feel like walking, you are close enough to walk about 20 minutes to the peace bridge. The peace bridge really stands out and is a modern red bike and pedestrian bridge designed by a Spanish architect. The bridge makes for some pretty cool photos with downtown Calgary in the background.

Kensington Neighborhood

Check out this neighborhood with cool shops, and really interesting restaurants. There was a marathon going on while we were here so it was extra crowded and almost no parking. If you are hungry, eat at Hayden’s Block BBQ. It is one of the best in the area!

Been to Calgary? What do you recommend?
