I Stayed in a Santorini Airbnb with a Cave Pool and Here is How it Went.

Omg you guys, if you are following me on Instagram, I am sure you saw this photo.

This is hands down the best Airbnb I have ever stayed in.

We recently traveled to Italy and Greece with our friends. When it came to choosing a place to stay in Santorini, we had a few musts for choosing our accommodations:

  • It must have a hot tub
  • It much have a pool
  • It must have 2 beds (2 bedrooms a plus)
  • It must have a view!

I wasn’t as picky about where on the island we stayed, but in reviewing prices on both Airbnb and Expedia, I realized very quickly that Oia was much more expensive and the more touristy part of the island. Our small town of Pyrgos ended up being the perfect, authentic experience and much more quiet! I looked for a few weeks trying to find one that fit our needs. Out of the blue, we stumbled across the perfect Airbnb.

You can stay at the same Airbnb we did by clicking this link!

A few tips and tricks

The Airbnb is located in a small town called Pyrgos. It is the highest point on the island, thus boasts some amazing views.

The walk up to the Airbnb can be pretty intense because you have climb a hill and several sets of stairs. We tried to spend as much time here as possible. I recommend grabbing food for take away and eating on the patio looking at the sunset. Try out the Cave Alta restaurant just a few steps from the Airbnb. The food was delicious and authentic!

The whole island of Santorini requires you to dispose of your toilet paper in the garbage. Toilet paper cannot be flushed. This one was so weird for me and also gross as we were sharing bathrooms with the couple we were traveling with.

There are a bunch of great restaurants in the little town of Pyrgos. A few we recommend are: Cafe Brusco, Cave Alta, and Johnnie’s Cafe

Yes, this town had the classic blue roof buildings set in the cliff. You will even see the same style church that you see in Oia here…just with far less people to deal with.

There is no Uber or Lyft. There are taxis that cost roughly $20 or $30 to go to Oia (ee-ya). You can get those amazing blue roof views from Oia as well.

You are walking distance to the Santo Winery. This winery has some pretty amazing views. The wine is just OK. I think Washington wine spoils us when we try it in other countries.

Pre-schedule your airport transportation. The summer public bus can be especially crowded and unpredictable. We used this company

The pool is the star of the show! Make sure you spend as much time here as possible. You will never find an Airbnb in Santorini this cool again! The pool water is a perfect 80 degrees. No freezing your butt off getting in. I am usually a baby when it comes to cold water and I was able to easily walk in. I am not sure if it really was the pool temp or the alcohol! Let’s just say…we had a lot of fun hanging in the pool after a day of drinking in the sun!

What is your favorite spot in Santorini? Did you stay in a super cool hotel or Airbnb? I would love to know!
