HMG Travels the World – 2019 Travel Year in Review

I think everyone says this every year…but 2019 went by way too fast! I think part of that was fueled by the insane amount of travel. I think this is the most I have been on the road this year. I love that each year I find a way to be more efficient in my packing. I consider it a talent to be able to pack in a carry on sized (backpack) for over 2 weeks of travel in Europe. I can’t wait to share more of my packing tips & tricks with you in 2020.

Here are some fun travel stats:

Here is a round up of all the places I traveled in 2019:

Pasadena & Anaheim, California l December 31 – January 2, 2019

We kicked off the year by booking a last minute trip to see University of Washington play in the Rose Bowl. They haven’t played in the Rose Bowl since 2001 and we didn’t know when they would be there again, so we made the trek down with my dad. We initially wanted to try our luck at Disney, but decided not to risk wasting our money with the place being overly full. Even Downtown Disney was insane! Pasadena was much colder than we planned on, so when the sun went down at the game it got cold. UW lost, but it was a fun experience for sure!

San Jose, California l January 12 – 13, 2019

I went on a quick overnight trip to see my college bestie / roommate. I hadn’t seen her for over 5 years so it was great to catch up. It felt like nothing had changed and we quickly caught up!

Lake Chelan, Washington l January 17 – 20, 2019

Not a few days later, we were off over the mountain pass to Lake Chelan! As you have seen in my decade recap on my Instagram, Chelan is a place I have been a bunch of times over the years. What started as beach + floatie + drinking day trips turned into SUPER CLASSY wine trips, obviously. This trip was with our travel buddies (Angie & Trevor) where we got to spend one day wine tasting and the next day at Winterfest.

Las Vegas, Nevada l February 2 – 7, 2019

This was one of the more interesting work trips to Vegas. If you all live in Washington than you remember “snowmageddon.” Rachel and I flew out on Saturday, completely avoiding the snow. Corporate was flying out on Monday and that is when the snow was really bad. Delayed flights, cancelled flights, etc. Also…the meeting rooms were FREEZING!

Big Island, Hawaii l February 12 – 20, 2019

Are you noticing a pattern with my first half of travels in 2019? I flew home from Vegas on the 7th with no issues, there was more snow overnight so we were snowed in for four days. There were weather reports that there was going to be another BIG snow on the 12th, so I said “hell no am I missing my flight to Hawaii.” We got a hotel near the airport the night before and ended up having just a 30 minute plane de-icing delay but made it to Hawaii! This was for our cousin’s wedding at the end of the week and enjoyed lots of family time and day trips!

Norfolk, Virginia l April 15 – 17, 2019

London, England l May 11 – 12, 2019

Sorrento was our home base on the Amalfi Coast. it was great to be able to explore such a cool city and be able to visit Pompeii. When I was younger, I was obsessed with ruins and archaeological sites. This one always fascinated me.

Amalfi Town, Italy l May 16, 2019

We took the bus on the treacherous road that is the Amalfi Coast. Amalfi Town was our first stop for some breakfast and exploring for about 2 hours. The town is small and it won’t take you too long to explore, but we found come cool spots!

Positano, Italy l May 16, 2019

OMG, I am so glad we went to Positano in the off season. We got to enjoy the town with far less people than is usually there. It is just as epic as you have probably seen in photos.

There is nothing like getting up at 6 am to get to the Trevi Fountain before the crowds showed up. Also, the Colosseum is pretty cool as well.

I don’t think there is another place like Venice! It is definitely one of those places you should see once in your life..and soon, before water overtakes it. Don’t forget to make your way to Murano & Burano.

Medford, Oregon l May 24 – 26, 2019

I spent 4 days in Nashville with 15 other ladies celebrating for my friend, Angie’s bachelorette party. It was a packed itinerary, but no better way to do all the things in such a short time.

Dallas, Texas l August 12 – 15, 2019

This was a sort of last minute trip for work. Of course, we always make time for a little fun before or after we work, so we checked out a few local breweries and a coffee shop. Oh, and did I mention it was hot?

Phoenix, Arizona l August 31 – September 3, 2019

This was a last minute girl’s trip to Chelan for some relaxation and …lots of wine!

My husband and I went with my oldest friend for a fun weekend getaway. We went ziplining, checked out some of the new bars, saw a show and ate lots of good food.

Eugene, Oregon l October 25 – 27, 2019

I finally got my husband, who is a die-hard UW fan, to go to Eugene and watch UO vs. WSU. Before and after the game he enjoyed, but he was miserable during the game.

Lake Chelan, Washington l December 26 – 29, 2019

We ended the year back in Chelan to celebrate Angie and Trevor’s wedding. It was an outdoor ceremony with a reception in the Tsillian winery restaurant.
